Saving Private Ryan – Minute Movie Review

Donnerstag, August 13th, 2009

Review:

On D-Day, as the Allied Forces attack continental Europe in the second World War, Private James Ryan loses all three of his brothers. This causes the army command to send a squad to find him and bring him back safely. Steven Spielberg’s epic is mostly remembered for the horribly great opening scene that shows the Normandy assault in all it’s gory detail – and rightfully so. Afterwards, the film changes into a decent enough war movie about a rag-tag bunch of soldiers doing their very best to fulfil their mission while surviving. The film is very careful to stay realistic, even if it’s nearly completely fictional, but ultimately it is just nothing extraordinary.

Random Observations:

Saving Private Ryan at the IMDb

An extremely young looking Nathan Fillion played the wrong James Ryan (i.e. not the one they were looking for). Horrible acting here from such a fine actor.

Paul Giamatti also has a small role. Another actor who moved on to bigger and better things.

And naturally, Barry Pepper plays an integral part in the film. I wrote about my liking for him before.

So I will make lists like “My Favourite Ten Actors Working Today”, even if that title is a little longer. And so, without further ado, here are the ten actors whose body of work I enjoy so much, that just their participation in a film means that I want to see it, in reverse order. If you know all ten of them, congratulate yourself on having good taste. (weiterlesen …)
